Say What Needs To be Said

What a brave article to write Julianna Stevenson. Almost every women I know who works in Technology said nothing to those types of comments in the early days of their career. It was too scary to fight back, and stand up for ourselves. We didn’t want to make waves. We were scared it might affect our career if we did. We thought that if we put our heads down and did the work we would be respected.

But that is not how it works. The truth is we have to stand up for ourselves and the other women around us. My career and yours will not move forward the way we want it to if we don’t.

Some companies will hold us back for standing up for ourselves and amplifying the minority voices around us. It is their loss because that is a signal that it is time to find a new place to work. Your career will not go where you want it to in a place like that regardless of if you stood up for yourself or not. It is time to move on.

So Julia hold on to these sentiments, hold your head up high, and stand your ground. I am standing there with you! Don’t give up on tech. I am so excited to see how you will contribute to it! Tech needs your talent, ideas, and perspective.
