I Love this. In 2015 I joined a 35-person startup, and I led the R&D team of 15 people. Over the next 5 years, we Unicorned and grew the R&D team to over 100 people. This development team had the best developers I have ever worked with, and we created a high-performance collaborative team. We also had yet to do any formal performance review. We worked with our dev managers to ensure our people received consistent feedback throughout the year to help them grow and perform well.

Unfortunately, when our company grew to around 2000 employees, the HR team insisted on implementing traditional performance reviews. I was able to resist this change for six years, and I believe it contributed to our collaborative and positive work culture. I am delighted to see that the current HR leader shares this vision and has successfully replicated it.

Congratulations on a job well done!
